Tonal Fall Fashion: How to Master the Style

When fall kicks into high gear and more muted shades take over your wardrobe, monochrome looks might naturally be on repeat. But just because an outfit consists of all the same colour doesn’t mean it has to be boring or lack personality. Mastering tonal fall fashion comes down to how you build your look.

Read on for our tips on how to style your same-shade outfit like a pro.

Picking a bag in a more unexpected material like suede will make an all-brown outfit really pop. Plus, suede is a soft, cosy material that’s perfect for the fall season. To round out the textures, opt for a structured canvas jacket or a thick knitted sweater. The contrast of materials will add dimension and depth while maintaining a neutral look.

The Brooklyn 39 has an oversized feel, making it the ultimate bag for giving a tonal look that extra oomph. For example, pairing the Brooklyn 39 in black with an all-black outfit elevates your style to a new level. That’s because when your ensemble is all the same shade, playing with shapes and proportions creates a fashion-forward edge. You can also do the opposite of oversized and go for an extra-small bag like the Mini Teri Crossbody. A mini bag always makes your outfit feel intentional and more personal, even when you’re wearing a tonal look.

For other ways to play with proportions: try pairing a cropped jacket with wide-legged pants, or style a long dress with an oversized sweater on top. The options are endless when you experiment with layering—especially layering things you wouldn’t initially think go well together.

There’s something bold and striking about a look that’s confidently coordinated. If you’re wearing a brighter shade like pink, for example, try pairing your look with a matching bag like the Barrel bag in Dark Fuschia. The bright-on-bright colours will be eye-catching and even though the look will be vivid, the tonal quality ensures the overall effect isn’t “too much”.

Of course, you can also get matchy-matchy with neutral shades. An understated tonal look in black, brown, tan or navy will also make a statement. The key is to lean into the coordination and have fun with wearing one colour. For inspiration, you can even base your outfit off your bag. Here are some favourites that offer a beautiful tone for your look: the Chelsea Bag in Warm Brown, the Brooklyn 34 in Dark Chocolate, the Teri Bag in Dark Stone, the Tabby 26 in Maple.
